Over 10 years ago I realized that there was more to life than working for someone else in an office. Since then I have been dipping my toes into the idea of self-sufficiency. My love of gardening and growing things started when I was in high school, I had over 50 houseplants in my bedroom and an amazingly supportive father who gave me an unlimited budget to buy plants for our 3/4 acre yard. As an adult the driving force behind this change is the desire to be outside more and give my son a life more in touch with nature.
I am now in Seattle, Washington in the USA and trying to juggle a demanding career, a young child and my love of growing my own vegetables, cooking and making cheese (these are only a few of my hobbies!!). This blog is all about the steps I take to throwing in the towel on my city/professional life and making the transition to becoming a self-sufficient farmer. My goal is to fully transition by 2020 but there is a lot to do between now and then and I look forward to taking you on this journey with me.
